About Makenna

My mother’s side of the family is filled with creatives, from artists and performers to kilt makers. Growing up surrounded by such creativity, it was only natural for me to fall in love with a career that lets me stretch my own creative muscles. I believe part of it is in my genes, and part of it comes from a deep, personal passion.
I enjoy rotating between the three tasks throughout the day—at least, that's what I aim to do. However, there are days when I fall into a rabbit hole and spend the entire afternoon illustrating, or I dedicate the whole day to meeting editing deadlines. Overall, I try to balance my workload, but sometimes one area inevitably takes priority over the others.
Reading, listening to music, going on walks in nature, window shopping, playing games with friends and family, collecting quotes, visiting museums, and cleaning/organizing.
Ravenclaw
Yes! In fact, I have two favorite animals: otters, because they are adorable sea puppies; and barn owls, because they are majestic and wise.

About Editing

I provide developmental and line editing services, specializing in fiction. You can find out more here.

My approach blends encouragement with constructive guidance. I believe in helping my clients grow as writers, so while I highlight the beauty in their work, I also provide thoughtful feedback to help them refine their craft. Like polishing a diamond, it takes some pressure to truly shine. I use clear, supportive language and often give examples of how to improve specific aspects of a manuscript. At the same time, I take joy in celebrating each achievement along the way. If you’re looking for an editor who offers insightful feedback, practical suggestions, and heartfelt support, we’ll be a great fit.

It doesn’t matter if you create an outline or write by the seat of your pants; you must have a method to keep track of how time passes in your book. It could be a calendar, a list of dates, or something similar. This will help with your pacing and maintain the realism of your story, whether it’s real or fictitious.

ABOUT ILLUSTRATING

Nope! I’m completely self-taught. I did take a few art courses in college when I was considering a degree in illustration, but I decided to switch directions.
My style ranges from semi-realistic to cartoony, with a focus on detailed backgrounds and clothing. While I enjoy drawing women the most, I’m comfortable illustrating men as well.
I focus primarily on digital media, using Procreate and Photoshop. Though, I love using watercolor and graphite for traditional work.

About writting

Funny enough, it was reading fanfiction. n middle school, I came across a lengthy fanfic that continued a series I had loved as a kid. The author had done such an incredible job that I could see it being published. That’s when it hit me—I could do the same, but with my own story. From there, I started thinking about the kind of story I’d want to read, and that’s how The Faedom Chronicles was born.

Most of my ideas come from my dreams. On occasion, I lucid dream, which makes manipulating scenes in my head quite interesting.

I am a hardcore PLOTTER. When I wrote the first draft of The Faedom Chronicles by the seat of my pants, I ended up discovering a major plot hole around 300 pages in, which meant scrapping the entire story and starting over. After that experience, I never pantsed again.

Thankfully, if I'm having issues with writer’s block, I just switch over to drawing. It gives my writer’s brain a rest and allows me to see the story in a different light.

Absolutely, I can't imagine life without music, especially when I'm writing. I have different playlists for various moods to help me get into the writing zone. If a playlist includes songs with lyrics, they need to be ones I'm familiar with, so the words don't distract me.

Using my artistic talents to paint a scene with words.

Internal dialogue, mainly because I often forget to add it in. I’m also not the biggest fan of sticking to a word count.
